First steps
Overview
If you have just installed iDynamics Commissions 365 Sales for the first time, either to put it into production or to evaluate whether it meets your needs, this document will serve as a reference to get it up and running and will help you become familiar with the product.
It is important to note that two components are required:
- iDynamics Commissions 365 Sales. Solution for the Dynamics 365 Sales environment. Enables the visualization of commissions and sales generated in Business Central by our app iDynamics Commissions within Dynamics 365 Sales, making things easier for salespeople by allowing them to view them in the environment they use daily.
- iDynamics Commissions 365 Sales Connector. Extension for Business Central. This is a connector that, once configured, will automatically synchronize commissions and sales, just like the rest of the entities that are synchronized in the standard integration between Business Central and Dynamics 365 Sales.
Installation
Dynamics 365 Sales Solution
If you haven't done so yet, the first step to start using iDynamics Commissions 365 Sales is to install the solution in your Dynamics 365 Sales environment from AppSource.
It is a required prerequisite that the Dynamics 365 Sales environment has the standard Business Central integration solutions installed, otherwise the installation will fail.
The solution is only for Dynamics 365 Sales SaaS.
Business Central Extension
Next, you need to install an extension in the Business Central environment already connected in the standard way with the Dynamics 365 Sales environment where the iDynamics Commissions 365 Sales solution has been installed. This is the iDynamics Commissions 365 Sales Connector app, and it can be downloaded from AppSource.
It is a required prerequisite that our iDynamics Commissions extension is installed in the Business Central environment, so if it is not, you need to install this extension first, which can also be downloaded from AppSource.
The extension is only for Business Central SaaS.
Setup
Dynamics 365 Sales
Security must be configured so that each salesperson only sees their own data (sales and commissions), and also so that certain users, such as sales managers, can see the data of all salespeople.
At this point there are still no commissions and sales in Dynamics 365 Sales, but it is better to configure this so that, once the data is synchronized, each user only sees what they should.
Business Central
You need to configure the connector to automate the synchronization of commissions and sales from Business Central with the Dynamics 365 Sales environment that is already connected in the standard way.
Additionally, the web service for commission forecasting from Dynamics 365 Sales can be activated. This is the most complex step to configure, so it can be left for last and only the commission and sales synchronization configured at this point.
Initial Synchronization (Business Central)
Once the synchronization of commissions and sales with Dynamics 365 Sales has been activated, an initial synchronization of all the ones existing in Business Central must be performed.
Important to do it before the next step of activating automatic synchronization, otherwise many errors could occur due to related tables and the dependent records not having had time to synchronize.
Data Check (Dynamics 365 Sales)
Once the initial synchronization of all existing commissions and sales in Business Central has been completed, you need to verify that they can be viewed correctly in the connected Dynamics 365 Sales environment, also verifying that the configured security requirements are met — that each salesperson that was set up this way only sees their own data and no one else's, and that users configured to see all data can view data for all salespeople.
To do this, open the Commissions app within the Dynamics 365 Sales environment and view and analyze the generated commissions and sales records.
Activating Automatic Synchronization (Business Central)
Once verified that the initial synchronization of all commissions and sales has completed successfully and can be viewed from the Dynamics 365 Sales environment with the required security (each salesperson sees only their data and there are users who can see everyone's), you need to activate the automatic synchronization so that new commissions and sales registered from this point on, or modifications to existing ones, are synchronized with the Dynamics 365 Sales environment unattended.
Additionally, you can activate email notifications for synchronization errors for greater convenience, as the user does not need to do anything else from Business Central. However, they can check the synchronization log if they wish, to make sure it is up to date and no errors have occurred.
